Battle of Edgehill

The English Civil War battle of Edgehill (or "Edge Hill"), on October 23, 1642. King Charles I was marching his army from Nottingham to London, a center of rebellion, when he encountered an army of 25,000 raised by Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex, but after a confused battle, both armies withdrew, leaving it a draw.
