Battle metal

Battle metal is a sub-genre of Black Metal which is about, basically, battles. Battle Metal could easily be the soundtrack for any Role Playing fantasy game, and in fact, a lot of Battle Metal bands like Summoning were thought to be contenders for a place in the soundtrack of the Lord of the Rings movies, but this was mainly for their Tolkien content. They did not get a place however. Battle Metal is not strictly defined to a specific brand of Black Metal, for instance most bands fit into another style of Black Metal, for instance, Bathory are a significant factor in the Viking Metal sub-genre. Waylander are pioneers of three sub genres of Black Metal, this one, Folk Metal and Celtic Metal.

Modern War Metal

This brand is headed up by Bolt Thrower[?], and instead of knights and battles in the forest, this one tends to be more about modern warfare and battlefields.
