Baring, Maine

Baring is a plantation located in Washington County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the plantation had a total population of 273.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the plantation has a total area of 62.4 km² (24.1 mi²). 54.2 km² (20.9 mi²) of it is land and 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.20% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 273 people, 113 households, and 81 families residing in the plantation. The population density is 5.0/km² (13.1/mi²). There are 146 housing units at an average density of 2.7/km² (7.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the plantation is 97.80% White, 0.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.47% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 113 households out of which 27.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the plantation the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.9 males.

The median income for a household in the plantation is $30,536, and the median income for a family is $35,000. Males have a median income of $32,344 versus $19,531 for females. The per capita income for the plantation is $14,083. 20.2% of the population and 12.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 33.3% are under the age of 18 and 25.0% are 65 or older.
