Once one of the largest
European air carriers,
Balkan Bulgarian Airlines struggled to survive and compete for nearly 15 years after the fall of
Communism in
Bulgaria. Finally, under the heavy burden of it's huge debts and after several unsuccessful privatization attempts the company was declared insolvent in late
2002.
It was suceeded as national carrier by newly formed Bulgaria Air[?].
