Avoca, Wisconsin

Avoca is a village located in Iowa County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 608.

Geography Avoca is located at 43°11'2" North, 90°19'31" West (43.183853, -90.325388)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.42% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 608 people, 257 households, and 159 families residing in the village. The population density is 103.4/km² (267.8/mi²). There are 328 housing units at an average density of 55.8/km² (144.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.19% White, 0.00% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.33% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 257 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% are non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the village the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $28,625, and the median income for a family is $31,786. Males have a median income of $25,795 versus $21,750 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,758. 17.3% of the population and 12.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.9% are under the age of 18 and 14.6% are 65 or older.
