Austin Powers, played by
Mike Myers, is the title character of a series of films. The films are a loose parody of many British spy films of the 1960s, including
Casino Royale, the
Harry Palmer films of
Michael Caine,
James Coburn's
Derek Flint[?] films,
James Bond films, and an increasingly broad range of other elements of
popular culture. With the added features of bodily functions and toilet humor, the films reflect a bawdy sense of humor, indeed.
The films parody the cliche' of a male super-spy who is irresistibly attractive to women, and makes no attempt to resist them.
The first film, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, was commercially successful, leading to the sequel Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me[?]. A third, Austin Powers in Goldmember, was released in 2002.
