August Ferdinand Möbius

August Ferdinand Möbius, German mathematician and theoretical astronomer, born: November 17, 1790, Schulpforta[?], Sachsen, Germany, died: September 26, 1868, Leipzig.

He is best known for his co-discovery (with Johann Benedict Listing) of the Möbius strip, a two-dimensional object with only one side.

His interest was also in number theory, and the important Möbius arithmetical function μ(n) has been named after him.
