Aster

Aster is a wide-spread genus of flowering plants, in the Asteraceae family. The name is also sometimes informally applied to the family as well. There are more than 600 species, a number of which are very popular garden plants.

Species include:

  • A. alpinus
  • A. amellus (Italian aster)
  • A. cordifolius (blue wood aster)
  • A. divaricatus (white wood aster)
  • A. ericoides (heath aster)
  • A. laevis
  • A. lateriflorus
  • A. novae-angliae (New England aster)
  • A. novi-belgii (New York aster)
  • A. pringlei
  • A. sibericus
  • A. tataricus
  • A. tonglensis

The China aster is in the related Callistephus genus.
