Asante

The Asante are a branch of the Akan[?] people of Ghana. The term "Asante" also refers to the central region of Ghana historically and contemporarily administered by the Asante people.

A much-loved figure in Asante history is Yaa Asantewaa, a leader of the resistance against British colonialism in 1896.
