Arlington is a town located in Arlington County, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 189,453. It is the county seat of Arlington County6.

Geography Arlington is located at 38°52'49" North, 77°6'30" West (38.880344, -77.108260)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 67.2 km² (26.0 mi²). 67.0 km² (25.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.35% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 189,453 people, 86,352 households, and 39,290 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,827.5/km² (7,323.3/mi²). There are 90,426 housing units at an average density of 1,349.6/km² (3,495.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 68.94% White, 9.35% African American, 0.35% Native American, 8.62% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 8.33% from other races, and 4.34% from two or more races. 18.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 86,352 households out of which 19.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.3% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 54.5% are non-families. 40.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.5% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 42.4% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $63,001, and the median income for a family is $78,877. Males have a median income of $51,011 versus $41,552 for females. The per capita income for the town is $37,706. 7.8% of the population and 5.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.1% are under the age of 18 and 7.0% are 65 or older.
