Aransas County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 22,497. Its county seat is Rockport6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,367 km² (528 mi²). 652 km² (252 mi²) of it is land and 715 km² (276 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 52.29% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 22,497 people, 9,132 households, and 6,401 families residing in the county. The population density is 34/km² (89/mi²). There are 12,848 housing units at an average density of 20/km² (51/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.44% White, 1.43% African American, 0.58% Native American, 2.77% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.33% from other races, and 2.39% from two or more races. 20.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,132 households out of which 27.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.00% are married couples living together, 9.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% are non-families. 25.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.80% under the age of 18, 6.20% from 18 to 24, 23.20% from 25 to 44, 27.10% from 45 to 64, and 19.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $30,702, and the median income for a family is $34,915. Males have a median income of $31,597 versus $20,289 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,560. 19.90% of the population and 15.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 31.00% are under the age of 18 and 10.20% are 65 or older.
