Angels Camp, California

Angels Camp, also known as City of Angels, is the only incorporated city in Calaveras County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,004.

Geography Angels Camp is located at 38°4'25" North, 120°32'57" West (38.073523, -120.549150)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²). 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,004 people, 1,286 households, and 856 families residing in the city. The population density is 384.1/km² (993.6/mi²). There are 1,422 housing units at an average density of 181.8/km² (470.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.14% White, 0.20% African American, 1.83% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.43% from other races, and 2.90% from two or more races. 8.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,286 households out of which 28.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% are non-families. 29.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $33,371, and the median income for a family is $48,125. Males have a median income of $37,269 versus $27,778 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,599. 13.0% of the population and 10.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.2% are under the age of 18 and 10.0% are 65 or older.
