Analysis (philosophy)

Analysis, in philosophy, is an account of the meaning or content of a word, phrase, or concept. In practice, analyses are not easily distinguishable from definitions. It is held by many contemporary philosophers that analyses, per se, are not possible; other terms used for the same sort of item are explication and account.

See also analytic philosophy; paradox of analysis[?].
