Amesbury is a town located in Essex County, Massachusetts. Amesbury was originally settled by Europeans in 1642 and was incorporated as a town in 1668. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 16,450.

Amesbury is located at 42° 51' 29" North 70° 55' 50" West (42.858333, -70.930556)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.65 mi² - 12.40 mi² land, 1.24 mi² water.
