In Hinduism, Amaravati is the capital of Svarga, a temporary paradise where the dead live. It is ruled by Indra and located on Mt. Meru.
A small town on the banks of river Krishna in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The holy shrine of Amaralingeswara(Lord Shiva) is on the banks of the river in this town. Was given a hagiographic portrayal in the famous short story series Amaravati Kathalu by Satyam Sankaramanchi.
