Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 61.5 km² (23.7 mi²). 59.1 km² (22.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.79% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,555 people, 2,864 households, and 1,913 families residing in the town. The population density is 195.4/km² (506.1/mi²). There are 3,016 housing units at an average density of 51.0/km² (132.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 93.22% White, 2.97% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 3.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,864 households out of which 38.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 16.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
