Elected to Dail Eireann in 1981 representing the constituency of South Kildare. Former Leader of Fine Gael and Minister for Finance; Agriculture; Justice and Energy & Communications. Married with two daughters. Before entering politics Alan Dukes worked as chief economist for the IFA in Brussels.Graduated with a first class honours degree and received his MA in Economics from UCD.
An outstanding politician and legislator, Dukes represented his constituents and the Irish electorate with great vigour, passion and excellence. Has since retired from politics after losing his seat in the general election of 2002 after Fine Gaels worst electoral defeat in its history. Alan Dukes is now committed to Europe where his passion always lay and was recently appointed as Director General of the Institute of European Affairs.
