Affliction

Affliction is a 1997 film which tells the story of an alcoholic small town policeman who must investigate a mysterious death involving his best friend, while dealing with his own father's alcoholism. It stars Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, James Coburn, Willem Dafoe, Mary Beth Hurt[?] and Jim True[?].

The movie was adapted by Paul Shrader[?] from the novel by Russell Banks[?]. It was directed by Shrader.

It won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (James Coburn) and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor (Nick Nolte).
