Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 880 km² (340 mi²). 879 km² (339 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water.

Demographics As of the census² of 2000, there are 33,625 people, 11,818 households, and 8,662 families residing in the county. The population density is 38/km² (99/mi²). There are 12,404 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (37/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.31% White, 0.14% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.47% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 3.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,818 households out of which 37.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.70% are married couples living together, 8.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.70% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.81 and the average family size is 3.37.
