Dear Abby

Redirected from Abigail Van Buren

Pauline Esther Friedman Phillips (born July 4, 1918) is an American writer who, under the pen-name of "Abigal Van Buren", wrote the Dear Abby column, a regular column in many newspapers in which people wrote her for advice and she answered.

Pauline was an identical twin; her sister, Esther Pauline Friedman, wrote the Ann Landers column until her death in 2002. As children, they went by the nicknames "Popo" and "Eppie".

Soon after Pauline's sister's death, she retired from writing her column, and her daughter, Jeanne Phillips[?], took over the column.
