The movie was adapted by Michael V. Gazzo[?], Alfred Hayes[?] and Carl Foreman[?] from the play by Gazzo. It was directed by Fred Zinnemann.

It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Anthony Franciosa).
