.50 BMG aka .50 Browning Machine Gun is a caliber invented for the M2 machine gun that is now used in high powered sniper rifles. Its metric dimension is 12.7mm x 99mm.

Ammunition exists in a wide variety of ball, armor piercing rounds, tracer rounds and other kind.
